ABSTRACT Considering the emotional dimension in the teaching and learning processes is essential to the success of the educational process. For this reason, the evaluation of teachers' conceptions about the role of affection in the educational processes is a necessary condition for the correct implementation of intervention programs in this regard. Based on this, the conceptions about the role of affection in the teaching and learning process were evaluated, through a questionnaire of dilemmas, of a sample of447 teachers of primary education. The results show that most teachers have dualist positions, conceiving affection and learning as processes that operate separately, and assign a determining role to emotions based on learning achievements. On the other hand, we found two smaller groups of partici pants; one of them showed a tendency to unknown the mental character of emotions, reducing them to their associated behaviors. The other one, of more complex characteristics, was characterized by conceiving affection as the center of learning, without substantive ontological distinctions between both kinds of processes. At the same time, some differences in conceptions were identified based on the type of learning related to emotions in the evaluation: learning of verbal or attitudinal contents. Results are presented and some reflections are elaborated about the educational implications of the study, mainly in the sense of designing a teacher initial training that promotes the development of integrating conceptions of the emotion-cognition relationship.
